Periodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with the treatment of the diseases in gums and bone (periodontal disease). Serious bacterial infection in the end can cause major problems in the oral cavity and eventually even tooth loss.

- Red, swollen, tender gums. The color of normal gum tissue is typically coral pink. If the gums become swollen, red and inflamed, that should be a reason to visit a dentist

For many people, the term of periodontology is an imaginary concept. On the other hand, gingivatis or periodontitis (paradontosis) are well-known terms since they are one of the most widely spread diseases of the oral cavity.
